Plein Air/Outdoor Painting Watercolor Workshop
Coastal Brittany, France 2021
September 20 arrival to 28 departures
Along the northern coast of France, in Brittany, we are heading to Saint-Suliac, a lovely village which sits on the banks of the estuary of the La Rance river, between Dinan and Dinard in the Ille-et-Vilaine department of Brittany. Saint-Suliac is classed as one of the “most beautiful villages of France“.
Would you like to join us? It is a historic and lovely location!
We will be settling into cottages in a courtyard, one street from the water, a short walk to town center. The cottage shares will be offering rooms with double or single occupancy. State your preference. Cost for the house shares will depend on number of participants.
Other expenses: shared car rentals, gas and tolls….side trips. Airfare and related travel expenses. We have many choices for dining, in or out: local grocers, bakery for daily baked breads, cheese and wines….We are in France after all!
How’s your skill with french? Good time to brush up!
Come join me if you’d like this painting adventure!….. contact Doris for information. $100 deposit due to register. Non refundable. We are placing deposits on homes now.
Several days, we will set up and work in a local spot.…selecting subjects and scenes that feel personal to you, yet descriptive of the time and lovely place.. Doris will do a demo to start the watercolor flowing and then everyone will paint together with guidance on materials, subject selection, composition, values. You will have lessons in how to set up, how to plan a work….. When/If we work indoors, we will have specific lessons on technique and ‘how to’.
A critique or evaluation will be held several afternoons to check progress and look for improvements/focus on your personal style. Everyone is a beginner when it comes to painting! Don’t be shy! It is an enriching experience.
With our rental vehicles, we will decide if travel to nearby Normandy to the DDay beaches and other historic locations is on your ‘bucket list’. The location is a few hours along the coast, to the north. We could tour the museums, American cemetery, and monuments, all as a day trip, returning to St. Suliac early evening. We could take in Mont St Michele, the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site in the great tidal bay. And perhaps see Cap Frehel, the famous cliffs rugged with imposing beauty.
Let me know if you feel strongly about any specific location. We’ll try to paint AND see, always a dilemma to get it all in.
Painting Adventure Costs:
Workshop fee: 5 days instruction with critique: $425.00…. Companion Welcomed! Fee for non painters $250.00
