Plein Air Workshop May 3-10, 2025
Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico,
New Mexico is a magnificent place to paint! The colors are beautiful earth colors, sandstone, and foliage. Drink in the ancient history in paint. Watercolor is perfect for plein air with its quick drying capacity and portable materials. You can capture the Southwest on paper! Other mediums are welcome as well.
General Schedule details
Always ongoing, so changes may come up.
Generally, arrange flights to come in to Albuquerque airport unless another plan is good for your own schedule. Arrive 5/3, get your rental car from airport, (shared if we coordinate arrival times)…..and drive to Taos. It is a lovely drive, whether via highway or through the mountains. Bypass Santa Fe, for we’ll be going there later on.
Arrive at Mabel Dodge Luhan House in the heart of Taos. You will be immersed in history. Rooms may be shared(twin beds) or single occupancy. We will be here for 3 nights, Sat/Sun/Monday, with departure 5/6 Tuesday. Included are breakfasts; sumptuous, cooked with local foods and prepared in Southwestern style.
We will be painting in the inn as well as the surrounding area and villages. Taos Pueblo is a possible visit. There are Museums well worth the visit. We’ll squeeze in all that we can.
5/6, Tuesday, on to Santa Fe where we will be sharing rental houses. We will keep the rental cars using them for ‘field trips’ to Abiquiu and other landmark areas. The museums in Santa Fe are rich with culture. You will love it all!
Packing:
We’ll text back and forth as May ’25 approaches. Temps are sometimes a bit chilly. A sweatshirt and vest would be good to have. We’ll be walking about on trails, setting up to paint, no heavy hiking; I bring sneakers and Teva-type sandal footwear. I think hiking boots are heavy to pack. Painting materials: keep it all portable. Easel is wonderful, so you don’t have to sit on stool or ground, but not mandatory.
